STUDENT EXHIBITION

Critical Design

1

The student works of the Design Institute explore various social processes and phenomena with a critical eye, holding up a mirror and starting a dialogue. They pull us out of our everyday lives and directly affecting our consciousness by showing us exciting situations.

Expressive Interactions

1

Hand-based, expressive interactions refer to the use of hand gestures, movements, and expressions to convey meaning and emotions. They can take many forms, such as using hand gestures to communicate with others, using the hands to create art or music, or using hand movements to express emotions. The interactive Play Your Rehabilitation installation treats the physical rehabilitation process as a video game-like experience, bringing users into interaction with various three-dimensional objects.

Data Embodiment

1

What does it mean when the body gets extended, hybridised, and delimited through technology? How does meaning emerge in and through the body? What is the value of corporeality when interacting in a mediated manner with each other? The Body Paste multi-channel video installation is focusing on the issues of the individuality and uniqueness of the human body.

The Book as object: Black box graphical interface explores the subjects of data and materiality. The continuously growing range of technological devices, algorithms spanning space and time, and mechanical systems, such as smart devices and artificial intelligence add variety to our public and private spaces as unfathomable black boxes.

Common Spaces

1

One of the most important traditions of MOME's architectural education are the legendary summer camps. The selection of short documentary videos provides an insight into the close relationships between the students. Student projects of the MOME Architecture Institute that won the Stefan Lengyel Scholarship of Excellence were designed around the idea of building community and the joy of being together.

Preferences of Materials

3

Co-founded by the Hungarian Fashion and Design Agency and MOME, the Material Library is a collection of the most innovative materials currently available worldwide. In addition to a physical collection of 300 tactile material samples available on site, it also features an online database of nearly 10 000 materials and production technologies in 5 languages, complete with photos and descriptions.

As part of MOME’s Material Inquiry module, at the Compo course starting in the second semester, students can deepen their understanding of material-oriented design, and gain theoretical and practical knowledge on material experimentation, which is essential for any responsible designer.

Gastronomy is an excellent playground for examining our past options and sketching alternatives for the future. What can we glean from collective memory, and how can the old be brought back to life today by serving traditional desserts on contemporary ceramic plates? Gerbeaud Legacy workshop, the latest collaboration between Onyx Műhely and MOME is seeking to answer these questions.

Photography

8

Passage, a site-specific photo exhibition represents transitional periods in the lives of former students of MOME Photography, marking important milestones in their journeys. The photos depict meaning associated with places, changing of places, social tensions, and technological frameworks.

Doctoral

School

Exhibition

D25

5

In 2023 an interactive exhibition was designed and developed to celebrate the 25th anniversary of MOME's multidisciplinary Doctoral School. One of the pavilions housed a special bookshelf containing the physical, original copies of 96 doctoral theses. Equipped with a push-open mechanism, it allows for easy browsing of the books. Now you can try the search function of this unique LED matrix display in MOME Library’s research room.

Grana Arenaria

7

The central motif of the SZÜDZÜGIA research group's spatial installation is the grain as a scaling unit and unit of measurement in which different scales and dimensions of time meet. From a single grain of sand to an endless desert landscape - from the Big Bang to the end of time.

Over the past decades it stimulated design actions, projects, and research leading to a more sustainable society. Aalto University is developing its culture, practices, and structures to create optimal conditions for radical creativity. Their community challenges everyone to think about what kind of creativity the world needs right now. An excellent introduction to highlight this new culture is the recent documentary film on Radical Creatives, directed by Emilia Hernesniemi.
