Join us for a cosy evening before the conference kick-off day. Networking Night presents an excellent opportunity to gain exclusive insights into Robin Schuldenfrei’s latest book and experience a “light-painted painting” audiovisual installation at Lumen café bar. The gathering aims to foster connections among all participants with each other and provide opportunity for pre-registration. It is also a chance to meet international colleagues, share about yourself and your work, and enjoy the lively atmosphere of Budapest’s downtown.
Book Launch: Objects in Exile
In her latest book Robin Schuldenfrei describes how the migration process played a crucial role in the evolution of modernism, tracing how modern art and architecture were shaped by the constant challenge of confronting and surpassing material limitations. Spanning from the prewar period to the 1960s, she explores the belongings brought by the émigrés, the belongings they left behind, and the new works they completed in exile. You will have the opportunity to delve deeper into her research during a moderated discussion led by art historian Ágnes Anna Sebestyén.
Installation Private View: Monochrome Clack I
The artwork created jointly by media artist Andrea Sztojánovits and painter and photographer Éva Köves explores the physics behind the theoretical interplay between paint pigments as particles and light rays as waves. The installation combines traditional oil painting on canvas with computer animation resulting in a kinetic experience when the projection interacts with the painting. Andrea Sztojánovits presents this distinctive art form and introduces the concept of the LAM Masters Academy programme in a brief presentation.
