NETWORKING NIGHT

Powered By Light Art Museum

Join us for a cosy evening before the conference kick-off day. Networking Night presents an excellent opportunity to gain exclusive insights into Robin Schuldenfrei’s latest book and experience a “light-painted painting” audiovisual installation at Lumen café bar. The gathering aims to foster connections among all participants with each other and provide opportunity for pre-registration. It is also a chance to meet international colleagues, share about yourself and your work, and enjoy the lively atmosphere of Budapest’s downtown.

Book Launch: Objects in Exile

In her latest book Robin Schuldenfrei describes how the migration process played a crucial role in the evolution of modernism, tracing how modern art and architecture were shaped by the constant challenge of confronting and surpassing material limitations. Spanning from the prewar period to the 1960s, she explores the belongings brought by the émigrés, the belongings they left behind, and the new works they completed in exile. You will have the opportunity to delve deeper into her research during a moderated discussion led by art historian Ágnes Anna Sebestyén.

Installation Private View: Monochrome Clack I

The artwork created jointly by media artist Andrea Sztojánovits and painter and photographer Éva Köves explores the physics behind the theoretical interplay between paint pigments as particles and light rays as waves. The installation combines traditional oil painting on canvas with computer animation resulting in a kinetic experience when the projection interacts with the painting. Andrea Sztojánovits presents this distinctive art form and introduces the concept of the LAM Masters Academy programme in a brief presentation.

Supported by Garamvári Vineyard and Roust Hungary

Gala Dinner

Join us in the heart of the Buda Hills for a delightful dining and gala event experience at a neo-Renaissance villa to enjoy the pleasant atmosphere a little longer after the closing session of the Cumulus Budapest 2024 conference. Let’s carry on our inspiring conversations and admire the carefully curated art pieces in a beautifully restored historic building nestled within an enchanting garden. You can also drop in later in the evening to party and toast to commemorate those unforgettable conference moments. Let’s make new plans for the future together!

Bright Lights

Mátyás Kálmán (Colloc Productions) and Dániel Besnyő (Centrum Production) have been creating and producing several new media productions, interactive installations, and light art projects worldwide. The MOME alumni artist duo is in charge of designing a unique light ambience for the Ballroom and various locations within Haris Park.

Dance Performance: My Mask & Our Layers

Willany Leó Improvisational Dance Theatre company is creating site-specific etudes in collaboration with former MOME textile and fashion design student Ágnes Varjú for the Cumulus Budapest 2024 Gala Event. Inspired by her master work My Masks and her diploma project Our Layers, Willany Leó presents short dance improvisations in the Ballroom, using pieces from the collection as costumes and props in the performances. Founded in 2008 under the direction of choreographer and dance teacher Zoltán Grecsó, the Willany Leó community regularly explores improvisations and experiment with new forms of contemporary dance.

Installation Private View: Falling

The Chapel Room of Haris Park will be transformed into an installation space featuring digital landscapes animated by media artist Bori Mákó, who graduated from MOME in 2017 with a Master’s degree in animation and is currently pursuing her PhD at the MOME Doctoral School. Her visual style encompasses various genres of digital painting reminiscent of David Hockney’s atmospheric works. Mákó’s exhibition portfolio includes large-scale prints, video installations, and printed publications. In addition to her artistic work, she is involved in television productions and animated film projects, and also holds digital painting courses.

Installation Private Viewing: Dung Dkar Cloak

Supported by Bang & Olufsen

At the Gala Event, you will have the opportunity to engage in an intimate explorative material experience and musical interaction with EJTECH's latest artwork, the fractal tapestry named Dung Dkar Cloak in the Winter Garden. Senior researchers at the Material Research Hub of the MOME Innovation Center and heads of the EJTECH project Judit Eszter Kárpáti and Esteban de la Torre’s research focuses on the creative potential of metamaterials and the use of technology to enhance human-computer interactions. In their technological and artistic laboratory, they explore techno-spirituality and experimental interactions, connections between sounds, lights and different surfaces through tactile engagement.

Acoustic Concert: LAIHO

Singer-songwriter Dorka Lajhó known by her stage name LAIHO embarked on a solo career in 2018 after graduating in classical piano. Her unique soundscape is a fusion of melancholic alternative art pop and indie folk, with a touch of rock and jazzy experimentation. Drawing inspiration from personal experiences, her distinctive songs are characterised by a fairy-like vocal style reminiscent of artists such as Big Thief, Radiohead, PJ Harvey, Aldous Harding, and Nick Drake.
